Jefferson County Assessor Bob Boyer

The Jefferson County Assessor’s Office mailed out more than 20,000 reminder notices on March 27 to residents who have not yet submitted personal property assessment lists.

Under state law, anyone who owns personal property must declare what they owned on Jan. 1 to the Assessor’s Office. Personal property includes motor vehicles, boats, trailers, livestock, farm machinery and business-related equipment.

County residents must submit the list by May 1 to avoid penalties. The state has not changed the date in the wake of the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

While public access to the Jefferson County Administration Center is limited, Assessor Bob Boyer said work is still being done in his office, and people may file statements by email, fax, mail or through the online filing system. To access the online system, go to jeffcomo.org/assessor.

The reminders recently mailed to those who have not filed include a PIN number needed to file electronically.

Boyer said more than 25,000 people have filed their forms online.

The Assessor’s Office site also has a form that may be downloaded for taxpayers who need tax waivers.

New county residents, current residents or business owners who did not receive an assessment list should call the Assessor’s Office at 636-797-5343 to request one or send an email to ppassessor@jeffcomo.org.
