Pop-up storm causes damage in Pevely area Tuesday evening

A storm caused damage in the Pevely area on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to multiple calls on Tuesday evening, July 29, after a pop-up thunderstorm with straight-line winds came through the Pevely area, Dunklin Fire Chief Brad Williams reported.

He believes the storm hit the area at about 5:30 or 6 p.m.

“We ran about 10 calls,” Williams said. “There were downed trees and downed power lines. I think the last response cleared out about midnight. We were busy most of the evening.

“If it was a downed power line, we’d leave someone there to make sure people did not get near it. We will remove a tree from a road if there are no wires around it.”

He said some power outages occurred in the Pevely area.

Williams said he was not aware of any major structural damage to buildings due to the winds, but a local convenience store was affected.

“Wind damaged a canopy at diesel pumps at the Mr. Fuel (8915 Weier Road),” he said.

He said no injuries were reported from any of the incidents.

Dunklin did not seek assistance from other fire agencies for the calls, he said.
