A 36-year-old Arnold woman recently was scammed out of $1,017 when she tried to buy a dog online. The woman never got the dog, and it’s unlikely authorities will be able to track down the culprit and recover the woman’s money, Arnold Police Detective Lt. James Jones said Dec. 8.
On Nov. 26, the woman sent a $570 money order to someone at a Walmart store in North Carolina who supposedly was going to send the woman a dog in return. The victim sent the culprit another $320 to cover insurance and shipping. Then, the victim gave her credit card information to the scammer, who used it to buy $127 in items, Jones said.
He advises people against sending strangers money and credit card information.
