Eureka Police arrested a 23-year-old Waynesville woman for alleged drug possession after finding her asleep in a car on westbound I-44 near the Six Flags Road exit. The car the woman was driving was allegedly blocking part of the exit ramp and part of it was on the shoulder, police reported.
Officers were called at about 7:50 p.m. March 11 by a friend of the woman who said a GPS device showed the 2013 Chrysler 200 the woman was driving had not moved in a couple of hours, the report said.
Officers found the woman asleep in the car, and one of the officers opened the passenger’s side door to turn off the engine before waking the woman. When the officer reached inside the car, he allegedly found a loaded gun, which he secured and emptied a bullet from the chamber, according to the report.
The woman allegedly told the officers, she was driving to Waynesville from Ohio and had pulled over because she was tired, the report said.
When an officer searched the car for the woman’s identification, he allegedly found a straw with a powdery substance on the floorboard. The officer then searched the car’s trunk and allegedly found a bag with Psilocybin, which are mushrooms that have hallucinogenic effects, according to the report.
The woman allegedly initially told the officers the mushrooms belonged to someone else, but she later said the mushrooms belonged to her. The woman was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where she was booked and released pending the application for charges, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of a firearm, Capt. Michael Werges said.
