The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the thefts of an SUV and car from nearby streets in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. Both vehicles were recovered, police report.

A 2016 Kia Soul and a 2020 Hyundai Elantra were stolen during the overnight hours of July 18-19. The Kia was stolen from outside an apartment complex in the 200 block of Mount Everest Drive, and the Hyundai was stolen outside a home in the 100 block of Stillbrook Estates Drive, which is just north of Mount Everest Drive, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not say if the two thefts were connected.

A woman, who owns the Kia, said the SUV had engine issues and did not run well. Deputies recovered the Soul on Mount Everest Drive, according to the report.

A man, who lives on Stillbrook Estates Drive, said his Hyundai was stolen the same night. He told investigators he could not remember if he locked the doors, but he had the keys, the report said.

The Elantra’s GPS systems indicated the car was in the 3800 block of Eichelberger Street in St. Louis, and St. Louis Police recovered the car in that area at about 2 p.m. July 19, according to the report.

The Sheriff’s Office does not provide approximate values for stolen vehicles.

As of Aug. 7, no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the thefts to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
