jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

Arnold Police are investigating recent thefts from two vehicles on Melody Lane and from one vehicle on nearby Stonegate Manor Drive. The incidents occurred between Jan. 14 and Jan. 15 when the culprit allegedly broke windows on two of the vehicles to get inside them. The other vehicle one was unlocked, police reported.

A 34-year-old Arnold man called police at about 8:10 p.m. Jan. 15 to a home in the 1800 block of Melody Lane. The rear driver's side and rear passenger’s side windows had been broken on his locked 2023 Kia K5, the report said.

A black backpack was stolen from the car, and a laptop computer that belongs to the victim's employer was in the backpack, according to the report.

The man said he parked the car at about 8 p.m. Jan. 14 and discovered the broken windows at about 7 a.m. Jan. 15, the report said.

A 33-year-old Arnold man called police to his home in the 1900 block Melody Lane at about 7 p.m. Jan. 15 after he found the rear passenger’s side window was shattered on his locked 2015 Jeep Cherokee. A gym bag that contained shoes and clothes was stolen from the SUV, according to the report.

The incident occurred between 3:38 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 15, Arnold Police reported.

A 38-year-old Arnold man called police at about 8:45 a.m. Jan. 18 to report his wallet had been stolen from his unlocked 2021 Ford Ranger at about 4:10 a.m. Jan. 15 in the 1500 block of Stonegate Manor Drive. He told investigators that $20 and credit and debit cards were in the wallet, the report said.

Surveillance video showed someone enter the pickup early on Jan. 15, police reported.

Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said Arnold Police will not provide approximate values for stolen items or estimated costs to repair damaged property without official estimates or receipts from victims.

However, Arnold Police reported that the items stolen from the vehicles on Melody Lane were worth less than $750 and considered misdemeanor thefts, but because credit cards were stolen during the incident on Stonegate Manor Drive, that theft is considered a felony.

As of Jan. 25, none of the stolen items had been located, and no suspects had been identified, Christopher said. He asks anyone with information about the thefts to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
