Festus Police arrested two women Aug. 26 for allegedly stealing two motorized shopping carts from the Twin City Walmart Supercenter, 650 S. Truman Blvd., after a driver reported nearly hitting one of them as they drove across Truman Boulevard.
Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said the women – a 30-year-old O’Fallon, Ill., woman and a 26-year-old Bourbon woman – were lucky they were not struck by a vehicle driving along the busy roadway.
“Officers found the women outside the Walgreens (519 S. Truman Blvd.) across the street about 10:55 p.m.,” he said. “One (woman) was found to have a warrant out on her. The other said she was tired of walking, her feet hurt and she wanted to ride. Around 10:30 p.m., a driver called to say she almost hit a woman in an electric cart driving across Truman.”
The chief said each motorized shopping cart is valued at $3,000.
The 30-year-old woman was arrested and released pending application for warrants. The 26-year-old was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation and was turned over to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis said.
