Christopher Dwayne Carter, Demond Anthony Carter

Christopher Dwayne Carter, 46, of Florissant and Demond Anthony Carter, 23, of St. Louis have been charged with multiple felonies after they allegedly stole $1,465 in items from the Walmart Supercenter, 2201 Michigan Ave., and fled from police, court records said.

Arnold Police got a call at 2:45 p.m. Jan. 21 about the alleged shoplifting. The men reportedly took a hoverboard valued at $899, a Samsung sound bar valued at $269, an HP computer valued at $198 and a stuffed animal suit valued at $99, the probable-cause statements said.

When officers arrived, Christopher Carter got into a 2004 Buick Rendezvous and fled the parking lot, traveling north of Jeffco Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Demond Carter ran back into the store to avoid the officers, but was taken into custody in the store’s bathroom, the report said.

A short time later, Christopher Carter crashed the vehicle on Jeffco Boulevard near Hwy. 141. He ran into a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 and a 2006 Honda Pilot, and the Pilot was pushed into a 2014 Honda Odyssey, Arnold Police Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.

No injuries were reported.

The Pilot was extensively damaged and had to be towed, and the Ram and Odyssey had minor damage but were driven from the scene, Wooldridge said.

After the accident, Christopher Carter got out of the Buick and attempted to run away. However, he was apprehended in the parking lot of the nearby Hobby Lobby, 30 Arnold Park Mall, Wooldridge said.

Christopher Carter was charged with stealing, a class D felony; resisting arrest, a class E felony; and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident, a class A misdemeanor. He was released on a $10,000 bond, court records show.

A class D felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison, a class E felony is punishable by up to four years in prison and a class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail.
