Arnold Police believe an Office Depot cashier was the victim of a shortchange scheme perpetrated by two Hispanic men. The two are suspected of similar incident at other businesses in Jefferson and St. Louis counties.
At approximately 2 p.m. Sept. 26, the two men allegedly scammed the cashier out of about $600 while purchasing gift cards worth $1,000. While buying the gift cards, the men continually asked the employee to give them back various denominations of cash, and after the transaction was complete and the men left the store, the woman operating the cash register realized they had paid only $400 for the cards, the report said.
As of Oct. 4, the men had not been identified, and it was not known how many other businesses had lost money to the scam. Lt. Jeremy Christopher said. He asks anyone who believes they fell victim to the scam to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
