Firefighters from the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District recently fought two blazes back to back. Both fire occurred Aug. 24 – one at a home in the 7000 block of Hillview Drive in Cedar Hill and the other at a home in the 7200 block of Lakeshore Drive in Cedar Hill, Chief Mick Fischer said.
Both homes were damaged, and both fires were accidental, Fischer said.
Cedar Hill Fire got a call about the blaze at the home on Hillview Drive at 7:05 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 7:11 p.m. Two people were home when the fire broke out, but they were able to get out of the house on their own uninjured, Fischer said.
He said the fire started in the basement. He said the home needs to be repaired before the residents can return, and that electricity has been turned off.
The residents are staying with friends in the meantime, Fischer said.
The fire was under control by 7:29 p.m. and crews stayed on the scene until 8:14 p.m. The Eureka, High Ridge and Hillsboro fire protection districts and the Big River Ambulance District helped with the call, Fischer said.
He said the call for the fire at the home on Lakeshore Drive came in at 7:57 p.m. and crews were on the scene in less than a minute because units were already out at the other fire.
Fischer said the two adults who live in the home were there when the fire started and were able to get out OK.
He said the fire was started by a candle in the living room.
Fischer said the home cannot be lived in until repairs are made.
He said the Red Cross was called to help the residents, who are staying with friends until they can return to their home.
Fischer said the fire was under control by 8:14 p.m. and firefighters stayed on the scene until 10:43 p.m. The Eureka, High Ridge, Hillsboro, St. Clair and Goldman fire protection districts and the Big River Ambulance District also assisted.
