A 30-year-old Cedar Hill man and a 26-year-old Hillsboro woman were arrested after they reportedly were found with two checks believed to have been stolen from a mailbox. The man allegedly forged and attempted to cash one of the checks at an Arnold bank, Arnold Police reported.
A teller at Commerce Bank, 956 Jeffco Blvd., called Arnold Police at about 5:15 p.m. Sept. 19 after the man tried to cash a type of check the employee had not dealt with before. The report did not specify what was unusual about the check.
When police arrived, they discovered the two checks, one for $755 and the other for $350, belonged to a 32-year-old St. Clair man who did not know the two people who reportedly had the stolen checks. The man who allegedly forged and tried to cash the $755 check already was wanted on a warrant from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for forgery, the report said.
The two were arrested and taken to the Arnold Police Station, where they were booked. The man was held for the Sheriff’s Office, and the woman was released pending application for warrants, according to the report.
Arnold Police will seek charges through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office against the man for forgery and possession of stolen property and against the woman for possession of stolen property, Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.
