Detour Grill and Bar was damaged this morning when a truck hit it, so the restaurant will remain closed until repairs can be made.

The Detour Grill and Bar in Imperial will be closed for a while after a black Chevy Silverado struck the restaurant this morning (April 9) and damaged a supporting corner of the building and broke out window panels.

The Antonia Fire Protection District got a call at 11:07 a.m. about the accident at the restaurant, 2855 Seckman Road, Assistant Chief Glenn Nivens said.

“I’m not exactly sure what happened, but apparently a gentleman hit the gas instead of the brake, jumped the curb and hit the building,” Nivens said.

He said the man was a regular customer at the restaurant and was not hurt in the accident.

“No one was hurt inside or outside of the restaurant,” Nivens said.

Both Antonia Fire and Jefferson County officials, however, have declared the building unsafe, so repairs will have to be completed before the restaurant can reopen, Nivens said.

The business will remain closed “until they can make the building structurally sound,” he added.

No other businesses in the retail complex were affected, Nivens said.

Both the county and the fire district will have to inspect and approve the repairs at Detour Grill and Bar before it can resume business, he said.

The owners of the building and the owner of the restaurant “were trying to get an engineer out there right away to get the building open as soon as possible,” Nivens said.

Detour Grill and Bar opened in 2009 in the commercial complex owned by Encounter Church of Arnold.

The owners of the restaurant could not be reached for comment, but the business posted some information on its Facebook page about the accident.

“We are sorry to announce that we will be closed until further notice,” the post says. “As most of you know there was an accident today with no injuries. We are thankful that everyone was safe and are looking forward to reopening as soon as possible.”
