Adult, two children treated for smoke inhalation after escaping Fenton-area home fire

A fire damages a mobile home on Canterbury Lane in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton.

An adult and two children were treated for smoke inhalation after smoke detectors alerted them to a fire in their home early this morning, Dec. 11, according to Saline Valley Fire Marshal Ryan Lesh.

Lesh said at about 3:17 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire in the 100 block of Canterbury Lane in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames coming through the roof of a mobile home in the Chancellor Farms Mobile Home Park.

He said an adult and two children evacuated the residence prior to firefighters’ arrival. They were taken to Mercy South Hospital in south St. Louis County by Rock Township Ambulance.

Lesh said as of today, the cause of the fire is not known, but it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

“It is important to note that smoke detectors save lives,” he said. “Having working smoke alarms in the home reduces the risk of dying in a home fire by more than half (54 percent). However, roughly three out of five fire deaths occur in homes with either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. More than one-third (38 percent) of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present. Please ensure you have properly working smoke detectors in your house.”

High Ridge and Fenton fire protection districts assisted with the fire.
