Eli John Henning, 17, of St. Louis has been charged with five felonies and a misdemeanor for allegedly trying to hit two Arnold Police officers with a car before being shot by an officer and arrested after crashing into a parked car outside the Lowe's store on Monday (Feb. 8), authorities reported.
Henning was charged today (Feb. 9) with first-degree assault, a class A felony, and first-degree property damage, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident, all three class E felonies, as well as armed criminal action, an unclassified felony, and fourth-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor, court records show.
Henning was being held in the Jefferson County Jail today without bond, according to court documents.
Arnold Police officers went to the store, 920 Arnold Commons Drive, at about 3 p.m. Monday because Henning reportedly was there to sell drugs, Chief Bob Shockey said.
When confronted by officers, Henning allegedly tried to hit police officers twice with the car he was driving, and both officers shot into the vehicle.
Henning appeared to have been grazed in the abdomen by a bullet fired by an officer, and the teenager was taken to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was treated and released to police, Shockey said.
No officers or other people were hurt in the incident, Shockey said.
Shockey said officers ordered Henning to get out of his car when they found him on the parking lot outside the store, but instead he allegedly revved his engine.
The teen allegedly drove at an officer, who shot at the car while getting out of the way, and then the car slammed into a police cruiser, Shockey said.
He said Henning then tried to hit another officer with the car and that officer also shot at the suspect, who then crashed into a parked car on the lot.
Henning reportedly tried to drive away, but the car he was driving broke down on a road the runs through the Arnold Commons shopping plaza, Shockey said.
A class A felony is punishable by 10 to up to 30 years or life in prison. Each of the class E felonies carries a penalty up to four years in prison, and the unclassified felony punishable by three to 15 years in prison. A class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a fine up to $2,000.
