Members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and St. Louis County Police SWAT teams surrounded a home near Arnold this morning (Sept. 13) where authorities believe a man has shot a woman, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.
Bissell said negotiators spoke with someone in the home believed to be the woman who may have been shot, but they have been unable to get inside the home to determine the extent of any injuries the woman may have.
Deputies were called at about 3:20 a.m. today about a disturbance in the 3000 block of Adayah Lane, which is southwest of Arnold. When deputies arrived, they heard gunfire and backed away from the home because they did not know if police were being shot at, Bissell said.
The deputies did not return fire and tactical units were called to the house, he said.
Bissell said the man and woman, who are believed to be the only two inside the home, had a prior relationship, but the nature of that relationship was not known this morning.
Another woman who is related to the woman believed to have been shot was able to get out of the home. She had not provided more information about the disturbance or the gunfire as of this morning, Bissell said.
He said one gunshot was heard after SWAT team members arrived. He said no officers had been injured.
Police have not evacuated people from nearby homes, but neighbors are being told to remain in their houses, Bissell said.
