Police have arrested a 30-year-old St. Louis County man suspected in two burglaries at Festus businesses, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis reported.

Lewis said St. Louis County Police arrested the man without incident at his home between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. March 18 based on police work in Festus.

“There was an arrest in the break-ins at John’s Butcher Shoppee and Hibachi Grill,” Lewis said. “It was really great police work by my detectives in conjunction with my road officers. It was definitely a team effort.”

In both burglaries, entry was made by smashing a front door window to the businesses.

The burglaries occurred Feb. 22 at Hibachi Grill & Buffet, 331 N. Creek Drive, and March 8 at John’s Butcher Shoppee, 503 N. Mill St.

Hibachi Grill & Buffet was no longer in business at the time, but the John’s Butcher Shoppee location is a long-time Festus business, Lewis said.

The suspect was booked and released pending application for warrants.

“We are seeking burglary-second-degree charges,” Lewis said.

He said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be added.

“We’re tying up loose ends,” Lewis said.
