A 25-year-old Imperial man has been arrested for allegedly stealing an estimated $3,500 in equipment and other items from a home in the 4200 block of East Four Ridge Road in Imperial. The man was arrested Sept. 30 after being spotted near the home, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

According to the report, a neighbor spotted the Imperial man, who was wearing a red shirt, on property near the house. The neighbor did not recognize the man and knew the home had been broken into in the past.

When authorities arrived and questioned the suspect, he told deputies he had been on the property where the home was burglarized looking for scrap items, but he denied stealing anything. The suspect also said another man had been with him looking for the scrap but had run away when the neighbor spotted them. The suspect said he did not know the whereabouts of the man who had been with him, the report said.

The Imperial man was arrested and released with a summons.

It looked like someone had entered the home through an open door and stolen several items, including two large toolboxes with miscellaneous tools; a log splitter; a 48-inch LCD television; and a revolver. As of Oct. 3, the stolen items had not been recovered, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

The property owner said the home previously had been burglarized but could not determine exactly when.

Anyone with information about the burglary is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
