Eureka Police are searching for a 34-year-old Sullivan man who allegedly used false information to start a line of credit with the Sherwin-Williams Paint Store company. The man allegedly used the false information to steal $1,879.90 worth of paint and primer from the company’s Eureka location, 1747 W. Fifth St., police reported.

The man also allegedly used the fake information to steal paint from two Sherwin-Williams locations in Fenton and one in Maryland Heights, the report said.

The man arrived at the Eureka store at about 9:40 a.m. July 23 in a white 2021 Chevrolet Silverado that had Louisiana license plates. The man picked up six 5-gallon buckets of paint and two 5-gallon buckets of primer at the Eureka store that he purchased online using a customer account that was set up in Sullivan, according to the report.

The Eureka store manager told police he was notified by the company’s loss prevention team on July 24 that the man was suspected of fraudulently buying paint at St. Louis-area stores. Investigators learned the pickup and customer account are registered to the Sullivan man, the report said.

However, one number is different in the Social Security numbers the man used to register the pickup and to start the account, according to the report.

As of Aug. 12, police have not located the Sullivan man, who is a person of interest in the case, Capt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the alleged theft to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
