Daniel Scott Williams, 51, of St. Louis, a chronic offender, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for driving while intoxicated, his fifth offense, court records indicate.
On Sept. 29, 2015, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted Williams speeding at Mount Olive Road and Hwy. V in the De Soto area and attempted to pull him over. Williams tried to flee but crashed, a probable-cause statement said.
After the accident, the deputy noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Williams’ breath, and he failed a sobriety field test, the report said.
Williams pleaded guilty to DWI-chronic offender, a felony, and on Sept. 11, Jefferson County Div. 6 Circuit Judge Troy A. Cardona sentenced him to 15 years in prison. However, Williams may be released early if he successfully completes a 24-month treatment program, court records indicated.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Thomas E. Hollingsworth handled the case.
The 15-year sentence will be served concurrently, or at the same time, with a five-year prison term Williams previously was sentenced to.
He had previous DWI convictions stemming from a March 2013 incident in Jefferson County, a July 2011 incident in St. Louis County, an April 2005 incident in Jefferson County and an October 2001 incident in St. Louis County, court papers show.
Williams currently is in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correction Center in Bonne Terre.
