Arnold Police officers used a stun gun to subdue a 45-year-old St. Louis man who reportedly refused to comply with their demands to get out of his vehicle at the Jim Edwards Archery Park in Arnold. Police were called to the park after a witness reported the man was driving into oncoming traffic and swerving between lanes on Telegraph Road before pulling into the park, 1010 Telegraph Road, where he continued to drive erratically, police reported.
At about 4:30 p.m. June 15, officers stopped the car on the lot at the park, and the driver appeared confused and disoriented. He allegedly refused to get out of the car and started yelling at the officers, the report said.
Officers told the man they would use a stun gun if he did not cooperate, and he reportedly continued to argue with officers. He was stunned, and at some point during the altercation, the suspect allegedly kicked a police officer, according to the report.
The man attempted to pull the stun gun wires off of himself, but eventually officers got him out of the car and handcuffed him. The man was cut by the tips of the stun gun wires and was treated at the park, the report said.
While he was being treated, the man allegedly threatened to shoot everyone at the park and asked the officers to shoot him. The man was taken to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for evaluation, according to the report.
Arnold Police issued the man summonses to appear in Municipal Court for careless and imprudent driving, resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.
