Logan William Schuepfer, 21, of St. Louis is facing two felony charges after allegedly shooting a 21-year-old Arnold man in the leg. The incident happened about 3 a.m. Nov. 30 outside the Circle K gas station, 2001 Richardson Road, in Arnold, according to court documents.

The victim required surgery to treat the gunshot wound, Arnold Police reported.

Later on Nov. 30, after Schuepfer was arrested, the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged him with first-degree assault, a class A felony, and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony.

Schuepfer’s bail was set at $50,000, but he had a bond-reduction hearing scheduled for today (Dec. 10), court papers indicate.

The Jefferson County Jail did not have a report of Schuepfer being held there this afternoon.

The events leading to the shooting began at a bar in downtown St. Louis, where Schuepfer, the Arnold man and three women were hanging out. Schuepfer and the victim got into an argument, and the disagreement continued while the five people were in a 2005 Toyota Camry, which the victim was driving, Arnold Police reported.

The victim said Schuepfer kept yelling at him to slow down and at one point, allegedly pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot the driver. The victim told police he pulled into the gas station parking lot believing he was going to fight Schuepfer. However, Schuepfer allegedly shot the victim in the leg and left, the report said.

One of the women drove the Arnold man to Mercy Hospital South, formerly St. Anthony’s Medical Center, in south St. Louis County, where the surgery was performed, according to the report.

Schuepfer and another one of the women returned to the parking lot, where Schuepfer turned himself into police. He told authorities the Arnold man charged at him and that is why he fired the shot, the report said.

A class A felony is punishable by 10 to 30 years or life in prison. The armed criminal action charge carries a three-year minimum sentence.
