Eureka Police arrested a 28-year-old St. Louis man for alleged possession of methamphetamine after he was pulled over in an SUV with warrants attached to it. Police stopped the man after Flock license plate-reading cameras alerted officers that the SUV he was driving had been spotted in the city, police reported.

A Flock camera indicated that the 2012 Buick Enclave entered the city at about 8:40 a.m. Aug. 1. An officer saw the Enclave traveling on West Fifth Street and stopped the driver in the Walmart parking lot, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, the report said.

The drover was wanted on 16 warrants and allegedly was driving with a suspended driver’s license. A passenger in the Enclave also had a suspended driver’s license, according to the report.

The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and for the warrants. An officer searched the SUV and allegedly found a backpack with a bag inside that contained a substance believed to be meth, as well as a scale and a plastic jar that contained what looked like marijuana covered with an unknown substance, the report said.

The passenger reportedly told police the backpack did not belong to him. The driver allegedly said the backpack belonged to the passenger. The driver also said he had picked up the passenger near North Sarah Street and Lindell Boulevard in St. Louis, according to the report.

The driver was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and held for St. Louis County Police on one of the warrants, the report said.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Capt. Michael Werges said.
