A 58-year-old St. Louis man was arrested after he allegedly used a check from a closed account to try to buy a car at Scoreboard Automotive Sales and Leasing, 527 N. Central Ave., Eureka Police reported.

Police were called at 12:32 p.m. Jan. 15 when the dealership’s owner determined the check was not legitimate. The man was trying to buy a 2007 Jaguar and was still at the business when officers arrived, the report said.

The man previously had been arrested for attempting to use bad checks, and he was wanted by the St. Louis County Police on an outstanding warrant, according to the report.

He was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was held for St. Louis County Police, the report said.

Capt. David Wilson said Eureka Police will seek a charge of attempting to pass a bad check against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
