This Dorothy scarecrow was damaged, and her red slippers were stolen.

A scarecrow display depicting a scene from the movie “The Wizard of Oz” was damaged outside the Victorian Gardens retirement community, 15 Hilltop Village Center Drive, Eureka Police reported.

The damage occurred between 6 p.m. Oct. 8 and 8 a.m. Oct. 9. Red slippers worth $5 were taken from a scarecrow that looks like the character Dorothy Gale. The cost to repair the damage was $10, according to the report.

The display depicts Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion being attacked by the Wicked Witch of the West’s Flying Monkeys.

As of Oct. 14, there were no suspects and the slippers had not been recovered, Capt. David Wilson said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
