Brande Smith, Brittny Airsman

Brande L. Smith, 42, formerly of Festus, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following felony robbery and assault charges, court papers indicate.

On Jan 12, 2015, Smith, along with Brittny Airsman, 26, of House Springs, unlawfully entered a home in the 200 block of Pilgrim Place in Fenton and assaulted a man who was asleep inside. The man said he was waked when the women placed a pillow over his face, and then a struggle ensued, and Smith used a sharp object to cut his neck, causing several lacerations, the probable-cause statement said.

Smith and Airsman also struck the man with blunt objects. During the assault, Airsman said, “Kill him, kill him,” the report said.

Eventually, the two women fled the scene, leaving in the victim’s 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to the report.

Smith, a prior offender, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree assault, both felonies, and on Aug. 15, Jefferson County Div. 3 Circuit Judge Nathan B. Stewart sentenced her to 12 years for the robbery charge and seven years for the assault charge. However, the two terms are to be served concurrently, or at the same time, court documents show.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Catherine M. Robertson handled the case.

Airsman also has pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree assault, and her sentencing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in Stewart’s courtroom, according to court records.

Smith previously was convicted of felony resisting arrest stemming from a January 2013 incident in Washington County and to felony possession of a controlled substance tied to a May 2013 incident in St. Louis County, court papers show.

She currently is in the Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia.
