Arnold Police are trying to identify a man who allegedly used sleight of hand to steal money from Walgreens, 776 Jeffco Blvd. Investigators believe the man was involved in a similar incident at another business in the city, police reported.
A Walgreens cashier called officers at about 10:10 p.m. Aug. 26 and said the man had used a $50 bill to purchase shampoo and a $100 bill to buy a lighter. After he purchased the shampoo, the man told her the change was wrong and asked for his $50 back. She gave it to him, but he allegedly did not give her back the change, the report said.
He then said he wanted to buy a lighter and gave the cashier a $100 and again said there was something wrong with the change she gave him and asked for the $100 bill back. The man allegedly kept the change he was given from the lighter purchase as well as the returned $100, according to the report.
When the cashier later counted the money in the cash register drawer, she was at least $150 short, the report said.
On Aug. 31, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said Arnold Police another business contacted Arnold Police to report a similar situation, but it is not known if the same man was involved or how much money was stolen in that incident.
