The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent road rage incident in the Otto area. Investigators said a man driving a pickup may have fired a gun during a confrontation with another who was riding a motorcycle after an accident.

Deputies were called at about 4 p.m. Aug. 24 to Hwy. 21 near Hwy. M in the Otto area after a pickup driver, a 42-year-old Kansas City man, and three motorcycle riders, all men from St. Louis, were involved in an accident. It was not clear today, Aug. 25, what caused the accident, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The pickup driver stopped on the side of the highway after the collision. One of the motorcycle riders, a 38-year-old man, approached the pickup, and the two started arguing, the report said.

The man in the pickup allegedly drew a gun and fired at least one shot. No one was injured by the gunfire, and the man in the pickup remained on the side of the highway, according to the report.

Two of the motorcycle riders, a 69-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, were injured in the accident. The older man was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the younger man was treated at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Spokesman Grant Bissell said as of this morning, no one had been arrested, and the Sheriff’s Office was not seeking charges against anyone at this time.
