A car was stolen from outside a BP gas station in Imperial while the driver was inside the convenience store buying a drink for a woman he had offered a ride to. The 1990 Chevrolet Camaro was stolen at about 5:30 p.m. June 26 at the gas station, 2099 Old Hwy. 21, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The driver of the Camaro said he saw a woman he knew from high school walking along the side of Hwy. 21 near Lonedell Road and stopped to give her a lift. He said she was going to a home on Country Club Drive in Imperial, and he was driving her there but stopped at the gas station, according to the report.
He said he went into the convenience store to buy the woman a drink, and when he came out of the store, the woman had driven away. The Sheriff’s Office recovered the car on June 28 in the 4400 block of Lonedell Road in the Arnold area, the report said.
As of July 6, the Sheriff’s Office had made no arrests in the case, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
