The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking “multiple suspects” who allegedly tried to break into vehicles in an Imperial neighborhood and then fled from deputies. The incident is tied to a string of thefts from vehicles in Jefferson County and the surrounding area, said Grant Bissell, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
At about 2:20 a.m. Aug. 16, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Waterfront Drive and Seckman Road in Imperial to investigate a report that suspects in two vehicles were attempting to break into locked vehicles there. When the deputies’ arrived, the suspects fled in the two vehicles at a high rate of speed, the report said.
A short time later, however, a deputy found a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic crashed at a nearby intersection. The Sonic had been stolen that day from outside a home on Summerfield Court in Imperial, according to the report.
The Sonic, which was valued at $8,000, was damaged and towed from the scene, and the owner was notified, the report said.
Bissell said Sept. 3 that no arrests had been made. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
