crime scene

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a person of interest in connection with an alleged burglary at a home in the 4400 block of Hwy. A in the Hillsboro area. The person reportedly damaged walls inside the home while stealing wiring and then crashed a truck through the rear wall of the garage to get away, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The incident was reported at 1:09 p.m. Dec. 23, after a person who works for the victim saw a Nissan truck and the suspect inside the garage. After spotting the suspect in the garage, the witness used his work truck to block the person inside the garage, the report said.

After that, the suspect got into the Nissan truck and allegedly struck both the work truck and the rear wall of the garage repeatedly until the wall collapsed. The suspect then drove through the rear of the garage and fled, according to the report.

The witness followed the suspect for a while but eventually stopped the pursuit at Old Hwy. 21 and the northbound ramp to Hwy. 21, the report said.

In addition to damaging the garage wall, the suspect allegedly damaged walls in every room of the house, as well as the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning unit, according to the report.

As of Dec. 29, the person of interest had not been arrested, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
