The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent burglary at the Quick Stop, 1841 Old Hwy. 21, in the Meramec Heights area west of Arnold.
At 2:32 a.m. April 10, deputies responded to an alarm sounding at the business and found that someone had used a rock to break glass in the front door, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The business owner was contacted and responded to the store and found that nine cartons of cigarettes were stolen, the report said.
Five cartons of Newport cigarettes and four cartons of L&M cigarettes, altogether valued at about $414, were stolen, according to the report.
In addition, damage to the door was estimated at $800, the report said.
Deputies viewed surveillance footage from the store, which showed a white man enter the parking lot from the south and walk to the front door, grab a rock and throw it through the glass door and then go inside, where he struck a cigarette case with his fist to open it, took out nine cartons of cigarettes, placed them in a bag he brought with him and then left the store, headed south, according to the report.
The man was about 6-feet tall with a medium build. He had a yellow shirt covering his face. He also was wearing a green T-shirt, black pants and black gloves, the report said.
As of April 15, the stolen cigarettes had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
