The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent burglary at a home in the 4400 block of Benton Drive in the Hillsboro area, where a 5-gallon jug filled with money was stolen.

Between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. April 11, someone forced open a door on the side of the home to get inside and stole the jug, the report said.

About $1,300 in U.S. and foreign currency was inside the jug. The damage to the door was estimated at $300, according to the report.

The victim said a neighbor called him to report that the side door was open, and then when the victim returned home, he found the jug missing. Nothing else appeared to be stolen, the report said.

As of April 14, the stolen money had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
