The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a 30-year-old Imperial man suspected of stealing a car and other items from the Petro Mart, 1200 Imperial Main Street. The theft happened about 4:30 a.m. Jan. 29, the report said.

The car, a 2004 Saturn, belonged to a Petro Mart employee and was stolen while it was parked outside the station warming up. In addition, the thief allegedly stole a honey bun, Mr. Pibb soda and some Marlboro cigarettes from the station’s convenience store, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The victim told deputies it was close to the end of her shift, so she went outside the store to start her car so it could warm up, and while she was outside the thief allegedly went inside the store and stole the food and other items and then walked back outside, got in her car and drove off “at a high rate of speed,” according to the report.

Later, the suspect was identified. As of Feb. 3, however, the man had not been taken into custody and the car had not been recovered, Capt. Gary Higginbotham said.
