The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating recent thefts of lawn mowers from two homes in the Hillsboro area.

During the day on May 4, someone stole a dark green Briggs and Stratton push mower from outside a home in the 9600 block of Hwy. 21, along with a key to a riding lawn mower, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Over night between May 4 and May 5, someone stole the riding mower the key went to – a red and black newer model Murray mower – from outside the home, the report said.

In all, the two lawn mowers were valued at $650, according to the report.

Between 7 p.m. May 5 and 1 p.m. May 6, someone stole a brand new green and yellow John Deer mower valued at about $2,225 from a home in the 6100 block of Reynolds Creek Road in the Hillsboro area, the report said.

That mower had been parked behind a garage at the home, according to the report.

The two thefts could be connected, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sheriff’s Office.

As of today (May 18), the mowers had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, he said.

Anyone with information about thefts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
