The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of about $50,000 in cash and other items from four sheds located on property along Hillsboro-House Springs Road in House Springs. In addition to about $38,000 in cash, stolen items included a gun safe, 25 guns and two dirt bikes. Altogether, the safe, guns and bikes were valued at about $12,000 the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The theft occurred between about 7 p.m. April 1 and 10:30 a.m. April 2. The victim, a 76-year-old House Springs man, told deputies he recently tore down a trailer on his property on Hillsboro-House Springs Road in order to build a new home there. He said he put his belongings in the four locked sheds on the property, and someone cut the locks off the sheds to break into them and steal the items, the report said.
As of April 6, none of the cash or stolen items had been recovered, and there were no suspects, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the theft should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
