Two juveniles were captured Sunday afternoon (Feb. 9), about two hours after they escaped from the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center, 9501 Goldfinch Lane, in Hillsboro, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified at 2:40 p.m. Sunday that the boys had escaped, and they were taken into custody at about 4:45 p.m., when they were found off Hillsboro House Springs Road near Hwy. 21 in Hillsboro, the report said.
Sheriff’s Office canine officer Zeus, a bloodhound, tracked the juveniles, who were arrested by uniformed deputies, according to a written statement.
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team also was involved in the search, according to the press release.
“They were quickly apprehended by the Sheriff’s Office,” juvenile officer Mark Akins said. “I was very pleased with how quickly they (the Sheriff’s Office) responded.”
Akins said he could not say how old the two boys are or disclose their hometowns. He also said he could not say what alleged crimes the boys had committed, but he did say they had been at the detention center for a while.
Atkins said the boys could face additional charges because of their escape.
