The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a 41-year-old St. Louis man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, following a chase from De Soto to Pevely, says Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.
At 12:11 a.m. April 5, the man was driving a Ford Windstar van near the intersection of Hwy. 110 and Fountain City Road in the De Soto area and a deputy who spotted him there suspected he was driving intoxicated and pulled him over, but as the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect sped away, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The deputy chased the suspect, who made a U-turn and headed toward Hwy. 67 and then got on northbound I-55, the report said.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol put down spike strips along I-55 at mile marker 178, but the man kept going. All four of his tires were deflated, though, at mile marker 180, where deputies had put down spike strips, and the suspect stopped at mile marker 181.6 near Pevely, according to the report.
He was taken into custody, and deputies learned he was wanted on outstanding felony warrants.
The Sheriff’s Office will seek DWI charges against him through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Arnhart said.
