The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 25-year-old Arnold man in connection with a burglary at a home in the 7600 block of Brownsford Road in Dittmer, but deputies are still looking for a 25-year-old St. Clair man and a 28-year-old Sullivan woman believed also to have been involved in the burglary. The incident happened at about 8:45 p.m. June 3, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The victim said he returned home from church and saw a man running from his home and into a car parked on his property. The homeowner said he tried to confront the people in the car, but one of the men fired a gun at him, the report said.

The homeowner said he then shot a gun he had into the air before the car drove away. The car did not get far, though, driving into a ditch before making it to Brownsford Road, where the men and woman ran into a wooded area near the victim’s home, according to the report.

It looked like the suspects broke a window to get inside the home and then stole a compound bow, two kayaks and an Ozark Trail cooler. The items, which were valued at $700, were found in the car and returned to the homeowner, the report said.

Deputies found the Arnold man near the home, but the other man and woman got away. The Sullivan man allegedly fired the gun at the homeowner, and he is believed to still have the weapon, according to the report.

The Arnold man was arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the Arnold man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree burglary, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.
