A 29-year-old West Plains man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a home in the 7000 block of KP Road in Dittmer. The suspect was related to the victim, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The burglary was reported about 3:10 p.m. Oct. 25, after the suspect allegedly used a tire iron to break out a bedroom window and then stole $20 worth of change. The damage to the window was estimated at $450, the report said.
Shortly after the victim discovered the burglary, his relative showed up at the home and said he had broken the window so he could “borrow” the money. The suspect also said he thought his relative would be OK with it, according to the report.
The victim, however, reported the theft and said he “would assist in the prosecution.” The suspect was arrested, but the money was not recovered, the report said.
The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the suspect through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree burglary, stealing and second-degree property damage. As of Nov. 1, charges had not been filed, Sgt. Matthew Moore said.
