Police are investigating the theft of a safe and two Stihl concrete saws from Kirkwood Material Supply West, 5151 Hwy. 109, in Eureka. The safe had more than $300 in it, and the total loss for the three items, plus the money, was $3,309.63, Eureka Police reported.
An officer was called at about 6:20 a.m. Dec. 23 to the landscaping supply company after an employee discovered a back door to the business was open and the deadbolt lock had been damaged. The company’s office had been ransacked and the safe was missing, the report said.
An officer found a hammer and pry bar next to a damaged soda machine outside the business, but the soda machine was not broken into. No estimate for the damage to the soda machine and the back door was reported, according to Eureka Police.
Surveillance video showed someone enter the company’s back door at about 2:20 a.m. and then carry the safe out of the building at about 2:35 a.m. At about 2:50 a.m., the person got into a white van and left the area, the report said.
As of Jan. 3, none of the stolen items had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
