Eureka Police arrested a 33-year-old Robertsville man and a 28-year-old Washington woman for alleged drug possession. Officers stopped the car the two were traveling in because they were allegedly involved in a disturbance at the QuikTrip gas station, 290 E. Fourth St., police reported.

Officers were called at about 11 p.m. Dec. 26 to the gas station. An employee said the two created a disturbance, and they appeared intoxicated, the report said.

When an officer arrived, he saw a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier leaving the gas station. The car allegedly sped away from the gas station, going through a red light without stopping and got onto eastbound I-44, according to the report.

The officer followed the Cavalier onto the interstate and stopped the car near Williams Road. The woman was driving the car, and the man was in the front passenger’s seat, the report said.

The woman gave the officer her driver’s license, which was expired. The man refused to provide his driver’s license, and the officer saw a hunting knife near the man’s feet, according to the report.

The man allegedly picked up the knife, and the officer grabbed the man’s arm and wrestled him out of the car. The officer then arrested the man, the report said.

After arresting the man, the officer allegedly saw a syringe on the passenger’s side floorboard, and the officer also found eight pill capsules in a purse that was in the car. The woman and man both denied knowing the pills were in the purse, according to the report.

The woman allegedly told officers that the man had taken Xanax pills and methamphetamine early in the evening. The Eureka Fire Protection District was called to transport the man, who was showing signs of potentially overdosing, to SSM St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, the report said.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where she was booked and released pending the application of warrants, according to the report.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man and woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Michael Tapp said.

He said the woman was issued s summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for allegedly driving with an expired license, failure to show proof of insurance and traffic violations. He said the man was issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court for alleged fourth-degree assault on a police officer.
