jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

Eureka Police are investigating the reported theft of a diamond ring from a room in the Victorian Gardens retirement community, 15 Hilltop Village Center Drive. The ring is worth about $6,000, police reported.

A 63-year-old Eureka man called police at about 5:30 p.m. May 8 to the retirement community. He told police the ring had been missing since early February, and he believed it was taken by a member of the cleaning staff, the report said.

The man said he had gone to breakfast on a February morning, and when he returned, the ring was gone from the nightstand where he always kept it. He said the ring is sliver with a large diamond surrounded by several smaller diamonds, Eureka Police reported.

Victorian Gardens officials said the man told them the ring was missing in March, and staff members helped him search his room for the ring but it was not located. They also told police the cleaning staff was not servicing the man’s floor when he said the ring went missing, according to the report.

As of May 20, the ring had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the ring to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
