House Springs man sentenced to seven years in prison for drug possession

Reed Ludwig

Reed Ludwig, 47, of House Springs has been sentenced to seven years in prison for possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced as persistent offender after having his probation revoked for three previous drug charges he had pleaded guilty to in 2017 and 2020, court records show.

Jefferson County Div. 4 Circuit Judge Brenda Stacey on March 25 sentenced Ludwig to seven years in prison for each of the four possession charges he pleaded guilty to following arrests in November 2023 and April 2024, according to court documents.

The sentences will be served concurrently, or at the same time, for a total of seven years, court records said.

Ludwig currently is in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Lindsay Whalen prosecuted the case.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, Ludwig was stopped for speeding at about 3:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2023, in the 3400 block of Old Sugar Creek Road in High Ridge by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The deputy arrested Ludwig for driving with a revoked license, and the deputy found a bag containing a white substance in Ludwig’s pocket. The substance tested positive as methamphetamine, the report said.

Ludwig was arrested again on April 25, 2024, and a deputy found a syringe with an unknown liquid inside it and multiple pills in two separate containers in a vehicle that Ludwig was driving, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

The liquid tested positive as meth, and the pills tested positive as controlled substances, the report said.

Ludwig had already been sentenced to seven years in prison when his probation was revoked in September 2024. He will serve that sentence concurrently with the seven-year sentence he received for the most recent drug possession charges, court records show.
