Festus High School

A post on social media led people to believe a threat had been made involving Festus High School’s homecoming dance, which was held Oct. 9 at the school, 501 Westwind Drive. However, Festus R-6 School District officials said there was no credible threat.

Superintendent Link Luttrell said Tuesday (Oct. 12) that district officials investigated the social media post and determined people misinterpreted the comment.

“It was proved there was no credible threat,” he said. “In this day and age, everything must be investigated.”

Luttrell said Festus Police were alerted about the social media comment as a precaution.

Festus High School Principal Karl Shininger sent an email to parents on Monday (Oct. 11), informing them about the investigation into the alleged threat.

District officials said no problems occurred at the dance.
