man in handcuffs

After a De Soto Police officer warned a 38-year-old St. Louis man about public drinking on Sept. 1, the officer ended up arresting the man for possession of a controlled substance, Police Chief Rick Draper reported.

At about 8:15 p.m., the officer observed the man take a drink out of a brown paper bag while standing on the parking lot at the Express Mart service station and convenience store, 518 S. Main St., Draper said.

“He was advised of our law on drinking alcohol in public and the item in the paper bag was, in fact, alcohol,” Draper said.

During the course of the investigation, the officer also found the man with a white crystal-like substance and two loaded syringes, Draper said.

The man was arrested and booked and then released pending application for warrants. Depending on results from drug analysis, De Soto Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Draper said.
