jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

Arnold Police are investigating the theft of a radio from a pickup left at Plaza Tire, 301 Plaza Way, to be repaired. In addition, one of the doors to the 2003 Ford F-250 was damaged, police reported.

A 52-year-old Imperial man said he left his pickup at the auto repair business on May 16 to be worked on, and the manager moved the pickup on the parking lot at about 4:30 p.m. May 17. The missing radio and damage to the pickup was discovered at about 6:40 a.m. May 18, the report said.

It looked like someone used a saw to get inside the pickup, damaging the door, and then cut the radio out of the dashboard. It appeared no one tried to steal the pickup because the ignition had not been tampered with, according to the report.

The damage to the pickup was estimated at about $4,000, police reported.

As of May 25, the radio had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
