Pevely Police are investigating the theft of a car from outside a home in the 1800 block of Mountain Ash Drive. Police also received reports of thefts from several vehicles in the same neighborhood during the same time frame, Chief Mark Glenn said.
At about 8:10 a.m. April 3, a 24-year-old Pevely woman reported her 2017 Hyundai Elektra had been stolen from outside her home on Mountain Ash Drive. She said she had left the vehicle locked about 10:45 p.m. the night before, the report said.
Subsequently, another person who lives at the same home discovered someone had rummaged through his vehicle and stolen $200 from it, although the culprit did not take a handgun left in it, according to the report.
During the investigation, officers learned from other residents in the area that at least three more vehicles in the area appeared to have been “rummaged through,” but nothing appeared to be missing from them, Glenn said.
However, a 73-year-old woman said someone had broken into her 2017 Jeep Renegade parked along a neighboring street in the 900 block of Pevely Pointe Drive and stolen five wristwatches that had been left inside the vehicle. Altogether, those watches were valued at $575, Glenn said.
In addition, officers found a stolen 2016 Ford Escape abandoned in the neighborhood. That vehicle, which reportedly had been stolen in Clayton, appeared to have five bullet holes on the driver-side door, as well as two spent shell casings inside the vehicle and a large red stain that appeared to be blood on the vehicle’s back seat. The vehicle was towed to the Clayton Police Department, Glenn said.
As of April 14, none of the stolen items had been recovered and no arrests had been made, he said. Anyone with information is urged to call Pevely Police at 636-475-5301.
