A pickup stolen from outside a home in the 700 block of Ann Street in Festus was found abandoned three days later outside of De Soto. The pickup was stolen March 29 and was recovered April 1, authorities reported.
Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said the incident began with a call about 6:10 p.m. March 29 about the theft of the 2008 Ford Ranger.
“He (the victim) was doing yard work and left keys in the vehicle,” Lewis said. “A neighbor’s video shows someone, a man, stealing the vehicle. The guy was walking by and just took it.
“It was recovered April 1 at Hwy. 110 and Fountain City Road (by the Jefferson County ) Sheriff’s Office). They called us and said it was at a towing company in Hillsboro.”
Lewis said the vehicle was valued at $2,000.
As of April 9, the investigation was ongoing, he said.
“We’re still looking for the suspect,” Lewis said.
