A female employee at Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely surprised a burglar when she showed up to work about 7 a.m. Monday (Aug. 29).
The man ran out another door, but he got away with a laptop computer worth $344, an iPad valued at $320 and $47 in coins from a children’s offering, Pevely Police Chief Ron Weeks said.
Police believe the man entered the church through an unlocked door and made his way to the business office, where he stole the items.
Weeks said video indicated the man is white, 20 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-11-inches tall and weighs about 155 pounds.
The same man is suspected of breaking into Spinners Coin Laundry in Gannon Square, which is across Hwy. Z from Lion Lutheran Church, Weeks said.
That break-in occurred at 4:42 a.m. Other details about that incident were unavailable Monday (Aug. 30), but Pevely Police released a photo of the suspect taken by security cameras at the coin laundry.
Anyone with information is asked to call Pevely Police at 636-475-5301.
