A 50-year-old Pevely woman was arrested in Arnold for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after she allegedly ran into a crosswalk signal pole and then continued driving before hitting an ice machine outside a gas station, Arnold Police reported.
At about 12:35 a.m. Dec. 10, a man reportedly saw the woman hit the signal pole at the intersection of Astra Way and Hwy. 141 in Arnold and called police. He followed the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic the woman was driving to the Phillips 66 gas station, 5 Municipal Drive, in Arnold, where she allegedly ran into an ice machine outside the convenience store there, the report said.
When an officer arrived at the gas station, he found the woman in the car, which was against the machine. No significant damage was reported from the accident at the gas station, according to the report.
However, the Sonic had significant damage to its front passenger side, where the car allegedly collided with the traffic signal pole. An estimate for the damage to the pole was not provided in the report.
The woman appeared to be intoxicated, and she allegedly refused the officer’s multiple requests to get out of the car. The officer eventually removed her from the car while she tried to resist by hanging onto the steering wheel, the report said.
After getting her out of the car, the officer took the woman to the Police Station, where she initially refused to be booked. She eventually cooperated and was released to a sober driver, according to the report.
The woman was issued summonses to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for suspicion of DWI, property damage, driving without a license, improper lane use, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest, Capt. Rich Shular said.
